No Shorts, No Problem

Someone on the Malicious Compliance subreddit shared how his tyrannical new boss inspired him to embrace skirts at the office. He explained that his office recently hired a new boss who micromanaged the team on trivial details, including dress code. When the boss confronted him for wearing khaki shorts in the heat, the Redditor was given an ultimatum: “..follow the dress code to the book, or you’re fired.”

"Say no more, boss."

Determined to comply creatively, he found a loophole in the company handbook that prohibited shorts but made no mention of skirts for males. He promptly ordered a pink and white kilt, with matching knee-high socks and shirt. The next day, he walked into the office in his new outfit, to shocked colleagues and a furious boss.

He was brought into his boss' office who then attempted to fire him, before being told,

"I am in dress code. I urge you to read the employee handbook."

The boss read through the handbook with growing anger, then admitted no rules had been broken, and waved him off.

It shows that a little creativity is often all that's needed to skirt around absurd dress codes.

And it reminds us of this story of a man who was banned from shorts at work chose to wear a high-vis kilt to complete his rounds.

One day we were told shorts were forbidden. Me and several of the other waiters all went to a thrift store or talked to a female friend and we all show up for our Friday evening shift in dresses or skirts. Rule was changed to 'anyone could wear shorts but no one could wear denim.' (Maybe it was the 6'2" guy who showed up for work in a denim miniskirt, nice top and fishnet stockings.)"
