Skirtonians Weekly: Code of Conduct & Agreement

The following applies to the weekly drop-in group hosted on Meta's Messenger app.

Code of Conduct

To ensure a safe, respectful, and productive space for everyone, all participants agree to the following:

  1. Maintain confidentiality: What’s shared in the group stays in the group. Do not share personal stories, media, or information without consent.
  2. Respect and support each other: Be kind and considerate regardless of identity. Embrace diverse perspectives and experiences. Avoid interrupting, dominating conversations, or making assumptions—seek clarity through questions.
  3. Ask for consent: Check if the other person is open to critique, personal questions, etc.
  4. Keep discussions free of sexually charged or fetish content: This includes messages, pictures, or behaviour during video calls. Other spaces online are more suited for these topics.

Agreement

By joining, you also acknowledge and agree to the following:

  • Voluntary participation: You are joining this group of your own free will and understand that discussions may involve sensitive topics. You acknowledge that new group members have access to past chat messages; share sensitive information with discretion.
  • Personal responsibility: You are responsible for your own actions and words during the sessions and will follow the group’s Code of Conduct.
  • Emotional considerations: Discussions may evoke strong emotions, and you are responsible for seeking additional support outside the group if needed.
  • Hold harmless: You release the group organizers, moderators, and other participants from any liability for your participation in the group.

By participating, you confirm that you’ve read, understood, and agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and Agreement, fostering a welcoming space for all.

Group logistics

🔔 Group chat notifications

The group's main purpose is the weekly video call, but discussion happens throughout the week which can cause many dings on your phone.

You might consider adjusting your notification settings—here are your options, from micro to macro:

  • [Recommended] Mute Skirtonians chat notifications: from the Skirtonians chat > Tap the title at the top > Notifications & sounds > Message notifications
    • Choose Mentions and replies if you only want notifications when someone mentions your name or replies directly to one of your messages
    • Or choose None
  • Mute Skirtonians group completely (❗ this will also mute any video call notification):
    • From home, swipe left on the Skirtonians chat > ⋯ More > Mute > Choose a set length or 'Until I change it'
    • Or, from the Skirtonians chat > Tap the title at the top > Mute
  • Adjust preferences for all Messenger conversations: in Messenger app: ☰ Menu > ⚙️ Settings > Notifications & sounds
