Photos don’t lie. They show what others see. If you want the truth about your outfit, take pictures.
Mirrors, on the other hand, distort. They flip your image, stretch proportions, and come with lighting that's unnaturally static.
In a mirror, you can adjust your posture, tilt your head, or shift your stance instantly to find your best angle. A photo freezes you in an unchangeable moment, sometimes catching an unflattering posture or expression. But that’s what the world sees.
Photos also let you take in your entire outfit at once. In a mirror, your eyes have to move up and down, but an image lets you gauge what you like or don't like, at a glance.
Have a friend take pictures from a few meters away. A tripod works too. Use a standard lens—35mm on a full-frame camera or its equivalent. No zoom, no wide-angle. This keeps the perspective true to life.
Mirrors are still great for quick checks while dressing. But if you want the truth, trust photos. Take them from different angles, in different light. Study them. You’ll see what fits, what doesn’t, and what works best.
Do this enough, and you won’t need the mirror’s opinion.
Take it a step further: Print photos of your best outfits and keep them near your closet for quick inspiration. You'd be surprised how often a brilliant combo gets lost in the shuffle, especially with a big wardrobe.
You’ll know exactly how you look, and you’ll step out with confidence.
